The Morning Star is taking the wheel of a local toy drive this week.

Through the second annual Vernon TOYota Drive, new, unwrapped toys will be collected at the newspaper Monday through Friday.

“Let’s make Christmas special for kids in need,” said Ian Jensen, Morning Star publisher, who will be driving the decorated Toyota Tundra all week to help promote the event.

“I get to take it up to the ski hill and I will be urging my fellow Kalamalka Rotarians to help fill the box of the truck at our meeting Thursday at the Vernon Lodge.”

Morning Star readers are urged to get in the spirit of giving by dropping new, unwrapped toys off at the office all this week (4407 – 25th Ave.).

Donations can also be made at the Village Green Centre, where Toyota’s second truck is parked inside the mall this month.

All of the toys will be delivered to the Salvation Army in time for Christmas, where parents get to pick out toys for their children in Santa’s workshop.
