Valley cruise targets impaired driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving hosts event to raise funds and awareness

Car lovers and hobbyists alike will be cruising the North Okanagan Saturday in support of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Central Okanagan Chapter.

The event is organized by Wanda Olsen-Saunders and her husband.

“We wanted to do something that’s really important and something that’s really important for people with cars,” said Olsen-Saunders.

The cruise begins at Westwood Retirement Resort (2505 Ingram Rd., Westbank) at 8:30 a.m., where Westwood is providing breakfast by donation to registered cruising participants.

Cruisers will stop for lunch at the Village Cheese Factory in Armstrong and take a free tour of the facility.

The route is approximately 192 kilometres long.

Cruisers will leave Westbank at 9:10 a.m., stopping at four check points along the route, where cruisers have a chance to win fantastic prizes.

Other stops include Hillbilly Haven and Redline Cycle & Auto for prize draws.

The cruise wraps up with a car show at the A&W on Lakeshore Road in Kelowna.

“Anyone can come on the cruise, you don’t have to own a classic car either, we just want to get anyone and everyone involved,” said Olsen-Saunders.
