Vernon and Enderby hosting Rivers Day

The Allan Brooks Nature Centre and the Regional District of the North Okanagan invite the public to Polson Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rivers Day is being celebrated in Vernon and Enderby Sunday.

The Allan Brooks Nature Centre and the Regional District of the North Okanagan invite the public to Polson Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“There will be activities and games for kids, cake and information about waterways,” said Julie Melanson, with the ABNC.

“This annual celebration focuses on the values of all water from lakes, ponds and wetlands, to creeks, streams, and everything in between.”

Music will be performed at the bandshell by the group 3hree of a Kind.

Coinciding with Rivers Day is the 20th annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, which encourages individuals, community groups and companies to clean up litter from the shorelines of local waterways.

In Enderby, Rivers Day activities take place in Belvidere Park at 10 a.m. with the Shuswap River clean-up at 10:30 a.m.

There’s a free lunch for volunteers at noon in the park along with a musical performance by the Elk Tribe during the afternoon.
