Vernon assists local groups

Taxpayers are helping to improve the quality of life for some local residents and aid a relatively new group to town

Taxpayers are helping to improve the quality of life for some local residents and aid a relatively new group to town.

The City of Vernon will provide one-time grants to the Okanagan Quality Life Society and the North Okanagan Pipes and Drums.

The Okanagan Quality Life Society will receive $2,000 to go towards a pontoon boat to take special needs residents on outings.

“They contribute quite a bit to the quality of life of people,” said Coun. Catherine Lord.

North Okanagan Pipes and Drums will receive $1,250 to assist with the purchase of band equipment.

“This is a new organization and it’s geared towards families. It’s an important addition,” said Lord.
