Years of dedicated volunteerism has landed Elouise Kilback recognition for all she does in her community.
Mrs. Eagle Award is a provincial recognition of achievement Kilback, 76, earned through her hard work in her volunteer and Eagle duties.
Her Eagle brothers and sisters sent in her application form for last year’s award, but she received it this year, at the recent provincial banquet.
Kilback had forgotten about the application and assumed she wouldn’t be awarded after the first year, but the forms are kept around for two years.
“I was so surprised,” said Kilback.
When she first joined the Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1988, it was because of the lack of social activities in Vernon. She was looking to meet new people and keep busy while her children were in school.
“It was a neat place to go and socialize,” said Kilback.
She has volunteered for nearly 30-years and has worked with catering weddings, family reunions, and many Friday dinners at the Eagle’s hall.
The money raised during the dinners and Sunday breakfasts go right back into helping the community and the building’s taxes, said Kilback.
“We’re always looking for members for the club,” said Kilback.
