Voices of Vernon is seeking out the city’s best storytellers.

The group is looking for someone who has an inspiring story, one that defies stereotypes and engages in curiosity-driven dialogue.

“Voices of Vernon is an event that is designed for members of the community to lean into and come together in their ‘human-ness,’ and explore our inter-connectedness through face-to-face dialogue,” said Emma Heistein, who organized the inaugural Voices of Vernon event in 2022. “We’re thrilled to be bringing the event back, to continue to challenge stereotypes and prejudices one person at a time.”

With the support of the B.C. Anti-Racism and Multiculturalism grant, local organizations are collaborating to produce Voices of Vernon in partnership with the Vernon School District, as part of a comprehensive approach to empower students and educators to identify and take action against racism and discrimination.

Students will have the opportunity to listen, learn, and share in the stories and histories of Vernon’s culturally diverse community members and recognize the complexity of the human experience.

If you are interested in sharing your story with the community, provide your information here. The due date is June 30.

Contact Amy Timleck (amy.timleck@vdicss.org) for more information. The event is sponsored by the Vernon and District Immigrant and Community Services Society.
