A local organization that has been helping the community since 1945 is ready to unload more support this Saturday.

The Vernon Lions Club is hosting a bottle drive fundraiser April 9, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Vernon Storage Centre, top lot at 4510 27th St.

“We will direct the flow of traffic and unload your vehicle,” club member Jackie Tardell said.

If you don’t have bottles the club is looking for donated items for its May 1 garage sale. The event will take place in the Kal Tire parking lot at 5451 Anderson Way from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., no early birds. To arrange pickup or delivery of items call Judy at 250-540-1148 or Jackie at 250-542-1947.

The club is also looking for sponsors for its May 28 golf tournament in support of Camp Winfield.

It’s been a tough two years for the club, with public health orders restricting fundraisers and events.

Such fundraisers help the club hand out a lion’s share of community support with donations, scholarships and service projects.
