Order of the Eastern Star presents gifts to Vernon Women’s Transition House

Jean Donker, Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lansdowne Chapter 72, presented 45 “ditty bags,” or care bags, and 20 lap blankets to the Vernon Women’s Transition House Society.

The handmade bags were filled with toiletries, books, colouring books, crayons and a stuffed toy for each child.

“Thank you to the Daughters of the Nile, Shelomi Club 9 of Vernon, who made and donated the lap blankets,” Donker said.

The Order also raised $115 and a basket of toys at their recent Christmas Party in support of the Armstrong Food Bank. Matching donations were also given to the Vernon, Enderby and Salmon Arm Food Banks.

The Order of the Eastern Star is a fraternal organization affiliated with the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and donate to various charities within the organization and their communities. They also collect stamps which are sold and the money is used to provide dressings for cancer patients. For information or stamp pickup contact Diane Mamalick at 250-260-2606
