Vernon packs joy into shoeboxes

Mr. Barrel of Fun (Rene Giasson) puts the finishing touches on a balloon creature. Mr. Barrel of Fun along with a minion were on hand at Vernon Teach and Learn Saturday to kick off their the Good Samaritan shoebox project.

Schools, local businesses, churches and individuals are getting in the spirit of giving with the Operation Christmas Child.

The Samaritan's Purse shoebox drive is underway with national collection week coming up Nov. 14 to 20.

But locally, efforts are already growing to send some cheer overseas.

Vernon Teach and Learn kicked off their the Good Samaritan shoebox project Saturday with some special guests – a minion and Mr. Barrel of Fun (Rene Giasson).
