Vernon School District auto shops drive away with new tools from car club

North Okanagan Chapter of Vintage Car Club uses funds from yearly show to grant wishes to school shops

A popular North Okanagan car show raises its hoods and opens its doors to help out local high schools.

The North Okanagan Chapter of the Vintage Car Club holds a show every Father’s Day in Vernon at the north end parking lot at SportChek, beside the Village Green Centre.

Proceeds from that event are returned by the club to local secondary school auto shops in the form of tools or other needed supplies.

“We ask each shop teacher for a wish list of supplies or tools they need, and we try to supply them with those items,” said club spokesperson Laurie Feniuk.

“We’ve been doing this for many years, and we are so pleased to be able to support and encourage our young students in their interest in the automotive field.”

The North Okanagan Chapter recently purchased tools and supplies for Vernon, Fulton, and Seaton Secondary schools in Vernon, as well as Charles Bloom in Lumby.

The 2024 North Okanagan Chapter of the Vintage Car Club’s Father’s Day Show will take place Sunday, June 16.

Spectators enter by donation, and those funds are used to support the auto shop classes.
