Local kids are being lured into a fun weekend event.

The Kalamalka Fly Fishers Society is back with its annual Kids Fishing Weekend at Polson Park Pond Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The event has been held annually (except for the two-year COVID break) for many years, with the Society hosting it for more than 17 years.

“In the past, this event has drawn 1,100 to 1,400 people, with upwards of 750 kids participating; for many their first time fishing,” said Bob Tait with the Fly Fishers.

The pond will be cleaned and split into three sections and stocked with 900 rainbow trout, courtesy of Freshwater Fisheries Summerland Hatchery.

Children four to 14 are invited to the free event to try their hand at catching a limit of two trout per day.

Rods and reels are available for those who don’t have their own.

Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
