NexusBC is bringing together volunteers and agencies needing some support to serve the community with Volunteer Vernon.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating the return of our community volunteer program,” said Pam Myers, executive director with NexusBC. “What was once a thriving program that matched organizations and volunteers lost its funding six years ago.”
The fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m on Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Nexus Community Resource Centre.
"If you are looking to volunteer or looking for volunteers, we encourage you to attend our Open House," said Kelsey Oster, Volunteer Vernon coordinator. "There are giveaways for both organizations and volunteers."
Volunteerism offers many benefits to the community, but the returns to the volunteers themselves are numerous: confidence building, new friends, broadened horizons, employment exploration, resume material, skill development, social development, self-esteem, exiting challenges, sharing knowledge, inclusion, improved mental, emotional and physical health and so many more.
Oster added that volunteers are "an integral part of our community."
“I had the pleasure of getting to know 27 organizations at the recent Vernon Volunteer Fair, all actively seeking volunteers. The positions are diverse and interesting. There is indeed something for everyone.”
