Walk supports guide dogs

The annual Purina Walk for Dog Guides will take place in Vernon Sunday

Who doesn’t love to walk their dog?

On Sunday, there’s an opportunity to walk your dog and raise money for Canadians with disabilities.

The annual Purina Walk for Dog Guides will take place in Vernon, with proceeds going to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

“Dog guides make the world more accessible for their handlers, whether it’s by navigating city sidewalks or by literally opening a door,” said Vernon resident Erin Kronbauer, who is planning the local event. “This walk is a way for our community to contribute to a cross-Canada success story.”

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk at 10 a.m.

The walk in Vernon will start at Total Pet, 3302 32 St.

Vernon is one of the 200 walks taking place this spring, with a dog walk in Enderby at the Lions Gazebo in Riverside Park also occurring on Sunday.

Last year, the walk raised more than $1,195,000 nationally.
