The City of Vernon’s Safe Communities Unit is raising awareness about Crime Prevention Week Nov. 1 to 7.
Crime Prevention Week is an annual event aimed at increasing awareness of crime prevention and encouraging citizens to help make the province’s communities safer.
“In Vernon, the Safe Communities Unit will be co-ordinating a variety of activities during Crime Prevention Week including workshops on personal safety, information sessions, and membership drives for programs such as Block Watch and Citizens Patrol,” said Tanya Laing Gahr, the city’s communications co-ordinator.
Crime Prevention Week targets a number of objectives:
Raising public awareness on the importance of prevention;
Encouraging public participation to ensure its success; and
Prompting a number of partners from municipalities, communities, police, education, health and social services, and private business to take action to preserve or restore an all-around sense of security within their respective communities.
