It’s an art project touching on ideas of history, nostalgia, and fantasy, and revealing personal desires through materials and form. And it’s a project that could only be completed in the Okanagan.

Erin Stafford, an artist from Dallas, Texas who earned a master’s from the University of Texas at San Antonio, completed the Fresh!AiR artist in residency program at the Caetani Cultural Centre. And, here in the Okanagan, she is focusing on her project called Freedom From Want, with an artist talk and gallery exhibition at the centre today.

“With its unique ecology and diverse climates such as aired deserts adjacent to lakes and mountainous regions, the location has directly influenced my work as it relates to the environment,” Stafford said. “The history of Okanagan with its origins in fur trading, will provide fruitful territory for materials related to culture and consumption.”

Join Stafford Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 6 - 9 p.m. for the opening reception of Freedom From Want at the Caetani Cultural Centre. Refreshments are available.
