While many heritage sites close for the winter, Mackie Lake House remains open for events each month.
“We’re excited not to ‘go dark,’ this winter,” says general manager Diane Llewelyn-Jones. “Instead, we’ll offer programs and events and continue giving visitors a reason to come back and experience something new.”
This kicks off just days before the winter solstice with Chick Flick Movie Night at Mackie Lake House on Dec. 19.
Guests are invited to attend in pyjamas or comfortable clothes to gather in the 1910 historic living room and watch The Holiday, all while enjoying a popcorn bar.
Tickets are $25 and can be secured by emailing: mackielakehouse@gmail.com.
In the new year, Mackie Lake House will host a monthly tea, with the theme Beat the Winter Blues, on Jan. 19.
This is followed by a Whisky Tasting on Jan. 23 - the first ever hosted at Mackie Lake House and just days ahead of Robbie Burns Day. Guests will enjoy five tastings of some of the finest international whiskies. They will also take in the history of Mackie Lake House (and of whisky!) and enjoy the musical stylings of legendary guitarist Neil Fraser.
In February, Mackie Lake House will host Kelowna-based folk duo Josh+Bex for an intimate, indoor concert experience. Tickets to this concert, taking place on Feb, 13, are available through the Vernon Winter Carnival at vernonwintercarnival.com.
Finally, guests can treat their loved ones (or themselves) to a Valentines Day Tea at Mackie Lake House, with two available sittings over the weekend of Feb. 15-16. Guests will learn about tea etiquette and the history of showing affection in the Victorian era.
Tickets are available to the Monthly Teas, Whisky Tasting and Valentines's Tea at ticketseller.ca.
