The Inspired Word Cafe opens season 15 at BNA on Oct. 3, 2024.

A space for poetry, music, comedy, and slam is excited to head into its 15th season.

The Inspired Word Cafe in Kelowna is hosting a Kickoff Open Mic night on Oct. 3 at BNA to get the season started.

“Last season we increased the number of events we offered, and could not have been happier with the results,” said Cole Mash, IWC executive director. “The lineups at the door for people to sign up shows us that this is something our community wants, and we are thrilled that we can offer these opportunities for local poets and artists.”

The kickoff event starts at 7 p.m. The event is open to people of all ages and the space is wheelchair accessible.

The Inspired Word Cafe also plans on putting together an anthology for its 15th year and is making a call out for spoken word poetry.

“Sharing on stage is just one part of being a poet or writer and so we wanted to create more opportunities for our local community through publication,” said Erin Scott, IWC Board President.

The anthology will be a curated collection of poetry reflecting the diverse voices and experiences of local poets. The poetry will be judged and the top three poets will receive a cash prize of up to $250.
