UPDATE: Alberta musician Brad Brewer has had to cancel his B.C. tour, which included two stops in the North Okanagan.

Brewer, who was to play 1609 Lounge at Silver Star Mountain March 8 and Lorenzo’s Café in Ashton Creek March 9, posted on Facebook Saturday that after playing two successful shows in Vancouver, he woke up to find his vehicle had been broken into.

“Absolutely everything I need to play music and make a living has been taken,” he posted. “I am devastated right now. I feel lost as to what we will do moving forward.”

With his tour now cancelled, Brewer is attempting to re-coupe some of his equipment, and says he is waiting to hear about his insurance.

“Sometimes it’s not as easy to be as optimistic as you would like to be. The positive out of this is that no one was hurt and we can still get home after the window is repaired,” he wrote.

He’s gone from busking along Toronto’s subway line to playing in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, and now Brad Brewer is about to hit the hills of the North Okanagan.

Brewer is travelling through Western Canada, with stops in Ashton Creek and Silver Star Mountain next week, to promote his new album due out in April.

“I am looking to connect with new venues and locals that will help me expose my music to new markets,” he said.

Brewer has a love for all kinds of music. That love for all genres, primarily his Canadian brand of alt-country/roots-rock, has helped him shape his percussive, guitar-playing style and mould the tight, pounding rhythmic sound he is known for today.

After two continents and 750 live performances, the misplaced Torontonian has finally found the right formula: “do it because you love it.” And after many years of pounding the stage with nothing more than a stompbox, a guitar and a bit of inspired Rocky Mountain passion, he has found his feet (pun intended) and has never looked back.

Brewer plays at 1609 Lounge (Level 2, 148 Silver Lode Lane, Silver Star Mountain) Wednesday, March 8 from 4-7 p.m. No cover. He is also at Lorenzo’s Cafe (901 Mabel Lake Rd. east of Enderby) Thursday, March 9 from 8-11 p.m. $10 cover.
