Special to The Morning Star

With spring just around the corner, everyone is looking forward to warmer weather, but until then why not fill your void with a show at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre?

There’s something for everyone to enjoy, whether it’s a romantic date night or just an enjoyable time out with your family or friends.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day when Ben Caplan and the Casual Smokers hit the stage Friday, March 17.

The Halifax folk musician, known as a charming smasher of pianos, strummer of chords, and an earnest poet and lover of bent and broken melodies, will entertain the audience with one of two of the VDPAC’s on-stage concerts this year.

Get an up-close and personal experience as you watch the peformance in a cabaret-style format on the stage (19-plus only).

Getting to Room Temperature, written by Arthur Milner, is a realistic look about getting older and dying in Canada. Milner has created a funny one-man show that will take you on an emotional journey into a topic we all think about sooner or later.

With humour, poise, and irony, Getting to Room Temperature invites you to explore brutal truths as Milner confides his own life experiences. Join us March 22 at 7:30 p.m. for a memorable experience.

Shay Kuebler’s GLORY, April 1, will be sure to dazzle with its contemporary Radical System Art through intuitive and poignant choreography. Influenced by childhood and a passion for action movies, the group of six energetic performers push their audience to question the purpose and reasoning of violent material in society.

Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada’s Phantom of the Opera is a captivating story, set to Francis Poulenc’s classical score, which evokes timeless themes and images of outcasts, love, and the power of obsession. Get your tickets to Phantom of the Opera, coming to the stage April 28 at 7:30 p.m., before they sell out.

Rounding out April is a humorous look at Henry VIII’s six wives in Monster Theatre’s Production of Til Death - The Six Wives of Henry VIII. It all begins in the afterlife. Tara Travis introduces us to the Betrayed Wife, the Scheming Wife, the Peacemaker, the Ugly German, the Tarty One, and the One in Love with Someone Else. The fun begins when Henry himself walks into this frenzied ex-wives club. A must see event, the play stages April 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Waiting to ring in spring is more enjoyable at the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre. Watch our website (www.ticketseller.ca) and social media outlets for more great events coming up and for updates and in-house contest details.
