Chorealis Vocal Ensemble is presenting an uplifting evening of a cappella music in support of Doctors Without Borders, April 7.

Glen Goerzen, co-founder of the 12-voice ensemble, came up with the idea for the concert, entitled Finding Light in the Darkness.

“I was feeling disturbed by recent events in the news; incidents of racism, prejudice, and intolerance seems to be everywhere,” he said. “I think it was the mosque shooting in Quebec last January that spurred me into action.”

Goerzen proposed to the group that they present a message of hope to the world, and everyone got on board.

Selected pieces ebb and flow between despair and hope, and are primarily drawn from the Renaissance choral tradition.

Andrea Harwood-Jones will give a short introductory talk, tying the theme and the music together.

The April 7 concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1406 32nd Ave., Vernon. Admission is by donation with proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders in support of refugees.
