Laughter is good.

Period.

Organizers of Comedy for a Cause recognize this which is why their stop in Vernon Saturday, May 7, will benefit the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.

The 2022 Comedy for a Cause tour will play Vernon’s Prestige Hotel, with the show starting at 8 p.m.

It’s a 90-minute entertaining act featuring four of the best comedians in the world.

“The mission of Comedy for a Cause is to provide professional entertainment to large audiences across Canada while contributing to local non-profit organizations,” said Alex Mackenzie, one of the four scheduled performers in Vernon along with host Sophia Johnson, Chris Griffin, and Efthimios Nasiopoulos.

Mackenzie quit a six-figure job, sold his house to move into an RV and began to chase his stand-up comedy dreams. He tours the world, having played the Melbourne Comedy Festival, Adelaide and Perth Fringe Festivals, and the Hungry for Laughs Comedy Tour. His videos have reached more than 40 million views online, and he is frequently asked to move his RV.

Johnson is an actor and comedian from New Zealand. You might have seen her on Netflix’s ‘Ash vs the Evil Dead’ or CW’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ and ‘Nancy Drew.” She has performed at three New Zealand International Comedy Festivals and has recently recorded for Just For Laughs Originals ‘Best of the West.’

Griffin has won the Vancouver Yuk Off Comedy Competition, made the finals of the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition, appeared six years in a row at the Just For Laughs Northwest Festival, and, the past two years, Griffin has been nominated for five and took home two Vancouver Comedy Awards, including Best Comedian on Tour.

Nasiopoulos is from Toronto. Growing up in a blue-collar family and living in a multi-cultural city gave him his first influences as a comedian. His comedy gives us a hysterical insight into human nature and tears down many social conventions we take for granted. Nasiopoulos has performed at JFL Northwest, The Hubcap Comedy Festival, CBC’s The Winnipeg Comedy Festival and CBC’s LOL.

Tickets for the show are available in advance at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/vernon-comedy-for-a-cause-tickets-317709546807. Some tickets will also be available at the door.
