Kelowna’s iconic performer and activist Freida Whales will be hosting a drag story time at the Penticton Art Gallery in the New Year.

“I’m excited to be bringing Drag Stroy Time to even more communities this year,” said Whales.

Drag performers, like Whales, typically wear exaggerated or caricature-like costumes often of the opposite gender as a fun form of self-expression.

While some drag performances are geared towards adults, the story time events are intended to be a fun, goofy and age-appropriate way to promote a love of reading in a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for all people.

The Penticton event will feature stories, songs and an art activity led by Whales.

The event is free to attend and registration is available at pentictonartgallery.com.

Whales is an animated story teller that has been bringing silly songs and a passion for reading to libraries across the province for the past six years. Additional story time dates and locations for 2024 will be released in the coming weeks.

“I’m excited to help kids all over the province learn to love reading,” said Whales.
