A group ranging from teenagers to retired seniors has come together on an array of instruments to form a new community orchestra.
North Okanagan Valley Orchestra (NOVO) was formed in September 2023 to provide a place for musicians to play and share their love of music with others.
NOVO’s premier concert, Sounds of Spring and Classical Dance Fever, is Friday, May 31 at 7 p.m. at Trinity United Church on Alexis Park Drive.
“We have about 35 players. Looking for more, especially violins,” said Annette Toop. “It’s close to a full orchestra with strings, flutes, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone.”
The group, raging in age from teens to retired, has been rehearsing every other Thursday.
The upcoming concert is held in conjunction with the well-established Vernon Community Band and the Silverwinds flute ensemble.
Refreshments will be offered and there will also be a bake sale.
Admission is by donation at the door.
“Come and enjoy an evening of varied and beautiful music and support your local musicians!”
