The story of a young boy's dream comes to live through the sounds of music with Counterpoint Choir.

The Vernon group presents What a Dream Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 at Knox Presbyterian Church.

The special winter concert features songs evocative of the magic and beauty of the night, and the mysterious world of dreams.

"The first half of the program includes songs from a variety of genres reflecting our theme," said Diane Katz, choir secretary.

Included are show tunes (Andrew Lloyd Webber), jazz, lullabies and beautiful songs set to works by great poets like Robert Frost, Rudyard Kipling and James Agee.

"All touch upon aspects of night and dreaming," said Katz.

The second half of the program features an allegorical story, The Reluctant Dragon.

Originally penned by Kenneth Graham, author of The Wind in the Willows, the story is set to music by John Rutter.

Featured guest musicians are: Vancouver tenor Adam Schmidt, Vernon bass Stephen Friesen, Seaton Secondary student Tavin Duclos, and Elizabeth Scott, celebrated Vernon voice teacher and founder of Scott Singers.

"As per our theme, the whole story is set in motion by a young boy's dreaming," said Katz.

Directed by Dr. Terry Pitt-Brooke and accompanied by pianist Teresa McKnight, the show features music that will both enchant and move you.

There are two chances to take in the show: Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from members, at Shear Dimensions Hair Design, or possibly at the door. Children and students are free.
