The first one in spring was excellent.

So the Vernon Winter Carnival Society will host a second Teen Night Friday, Oct. 6.

“We are very excited about this continued partnership with the Vernon Recreation Centre,” said Carnival executive director Kris Fuller. “This is our second event for teens (first was in May with 100 teens attending) and we expect it to continue to grow.”

Everyone aged 13-18 is welcome.

The agenda includes:

• 6-8 p.m. free games, snacks, and prizes in the auditorium. Games will include bean bag toss, axe throwing, puzzles, giant dice, spike ball, and more with, of course, music;

• 6-8 p.m. free basketball in the Dogwood Gym;

• 6:45 to 8 p.m. toonie skate for youth at the Priest Valley Arena;

• 7:30 to 9 p.m. two-for-one youth swim.

“We have door prizes to give away all night so stop by the auditorium first no matter what activity you choose,” said Fuller.

Tima Coad, program director at the rec centre and co-host for the event, said there’s a need for activities at this age group.

“We are thrilled to have the Vernon Winter Carnival join us for our second event,” said Coad, who added the rec centre will also host a teen event during the 64th Vernon Winter Carnival on Feb. 5.

Sponsors for Teen Night include Valley First (Carnival’s title sponsor for all events), Okanagan Learning, Transitional Marketing Services, Tourism Vernon, City of Vernon, Armstrong Regional Coop, SilverStar Mountain and Destination SilverStar.

The theme for the Carnival is Game!, which can be sports, card, board or parlour games.

The Vernon Winter Carnival will run Feb. 2-12, 2024.
