The Okanagan Screen Arts Society will screen Equity on Monday, March 27 at 5:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. at the Vernon Towne Cinema. The film stars Anna Gunn, James Purefoy, Sarah Megan Thomas, and Alysia Reiner.

Equity is the first female-led Wall Street film, also written and directed by women.

The film follows Naomi Bishop (Gunn), who is a top-notch senior investment banker. She lives for her job and for making money. Despite interoffice sexism and enemies within the industry, Naomi has made a name for herself and is quickly making her way up the corporate ladder.

However, during the negotiations of a major client, a trusted colleague betrays her, and Naomi finds her career quickly undermined by scandal of all sorts: a vengeful co-worker, an unwise affair, and even a possible police investigation. All threatening to derail the career she’s worked so hard to build.

Critics say that Equity “…is an exciting, smartly sexy, suspenseful crime drama that evokes classic Hollywood film noir,” and have praised the film for being humanist rather than overtly feminist, showing the high personal cost of trading conscience for filthy lucre.

The Okanagan Screen Arts Society is a non-profit group committed to bringing independent, quality, genre-breaking films to Vernon with a goal of providing bursaries and grants to students working in the screen arts. There will be a wine bar, live music by Les Copeland and a brief introduction before each presentation.
