The City of Vernon had been working on 33rd Street since December, including two complete water shutoffs to the residents of this street.

All the services have been replaced and is part of a tax funded initiative in the amount of $11.5 million.

My cold water coming into my home was filled with sand and debris which resulted in a plumbing repair of just under $600.

Toilets and washing machines and hot water tanks all compromised.

The city of Vernon has engaged the services of an insurance claims adjuster in Vancouver, who after deliberating on my specific case for six weeks advised me finally that the city is not liable for damages done to personal property as a result of road construction work.

I am not the only residence to have received this insufferable response.

My operating costs including the taxes I pay to this city are funded by my downtown business.

I am appalled by the lack of responsibility to taxpayers, when we are actually funding your salaries and the operation and capital expenditures of this fine city.

If the payments to plumbers and gas fitters come out of our own pockets, we should be able to deduct those invoices of our property taxes.
