New Coldstream rules hurting farmers

LETTER: Fruit stand now has to pay for a permit to operate

To the benefit of local consumers, every summer for over 13 years a family orchard has operated a popular, mobile fruit stand on an unused portion of public property in Coldstream.

Inexplicably, someone complained to the municipality of Coldstream.

Who or on what grounds it was never disclosed, however, the district elected to impose a permit system and now the vendor has to pay $300 per year to do exactly what the family has been doing for the past 13 years.

Really?

If our governments continue to harass our local farmers, don't worry, we can always buy our fruit at Loblaw's grocery or perhaps Sobeys.
