Polson Park 'naturalization' going backwards

June 18, 2024 will be a day long remembered by our present city council.

June 18, 2024 will be a day long remembered by our present city council.

Those council members who took the time to walk through Polson Park and see the first day of the desecration of Vernon's crown jewel will be asking themselves how they ever thought this so called "transformation to the natural state" was a good idea.

Anyone who has lived here more than 50 years as I have will remember that the "natural state" was a flood plain and many thousands of taxpayer dollars were
spent to create berms and shore up the banks.

Willow trees were planted to absorb excess water.

Several attractive bridges were installed that served as backdrop to wedding photos.

Now we're going to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to convert it back to a flood plain.

Healthy trees are being cut down all along the creek banks.

The bridges will be removed and probably never replaced.

The water flow through the culverts under Highway 97 will not be controlled.

I could go on but suffice it to say that the project should be halted immediately.
