Recently space on these pages has been given explaining the financial realities faced by our seniors.
Some seniors have done well, and have the resources to live comfortably. Good for them. Others haven't been so fortunate, and may never have had the security of full time or decent paying employment, much less employment that provides a good pension.
I am a senior with a life-long disability. I have worked behind the scene for years to improve the lot of the disabled. My mother also worked years as a seniors
councillor. I know the problems and challenges well.
I am also well aware of some current problems which we can't ignore forever One billion seconds ago it would be 1959! Canada is now one trillion dollars in debt at the federal level, and that number has doubled in the last few years. I wonder how that happened??
Right now the feds are spending a billion dollars every week just to service the debt. That is every cent they bring in so we are going in debt further every day. Source of this - Canadian taxpayers federation, an independently funded entity with no government ties.
As if that isn't enough, other levels of government are also in financial trouble. The kitty is empty and more so. If we are responsible citizens who give a damn about our future, then we need to consider this carefully when we vote.
