KELOWNA — Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet takes audiences on a fun, frenetic trip down the rabbit hole with the Okanagan premiere of Wonderland at the Kelowna Community Theatre, March 22. This dynamic re-interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s beloved classic will provide a fantastical, imaginative adventure for both adults and children. Acclaimed choreographer Shawn Hounsell’s creative genius has transformed the beloved children’s story into a multi-sensory experience brimming with athletic movement, spectacular visual effects, and an original electro-acoustic soundscape. A contemporary and mature re-envisioning, Wonderland features familiar characters Alice, The Queen of Hearts, The White Rabbit, and the Mad Hatter displaying generous doses of wit, camp and humour. The surreal and dark elements that lurk at the original story’s fringes are bravely realized in explosive passages of breathtaking dance and innovative multimedia. The culmination of this exploration is a visually stunning and intellectually engaging work that will ensure audiences discover the classic work in an exciting new way. This is Alice like you’ve never seen her before! Wonderland takes the stage at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m.Regularly priced tickets for RWB’s Wonderland are $68 for adults, and $36.50 for students and $57.50 for seniors (plus applicable charges).
