Celtic tunes for benefit

New Hope for Widows and Widowers

For the past 14 years, New Hope has been dedicated to providing support, encouragement and hope to newly bereaved widows and widowers.

New Hope is active in Vernon and Kelowna, providing support groups and social activities, an annual retreat and a bi-monthly newsletter.

“Widowed ourselves, we are able to identify with the new widow/er and provide the empathetic support and understanding which is so important in the first two to three years after a loss,” said Karen Bouchard, with New Hope.

But the organization also relies on fundraisers to continue its work. On Saturday, New Hope holds its annual benefit concert and silent auction featuring live music from popular Celtic group The Cats and the Fiddle. The evening also includes a dessert buffet, door prizes, silent auction and bake sale.

“This annual fundraiser is open to friends of New Hope, fans of The Cats and the Fiddle, and anyone who is interested in learning more about the work of New Hope in the local area,” said Bouchard.

The event takes place at 7 p.m. at Vernon Christian Fellowship, 4507 – 29th St. Tickets are $10 each and can be reserved through the New Hope Office at 250-545-6004 or by e-mail at new-hope@telus.net.
