Chanting for peace

The Vernon Buddhist Temple in Vernon invites all who want to chant, make paper cranes or just lend support

The Vernon Buddhist Temple hosts Chanting for World Peace on Monday to mark the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan at the end of the Second World War in 1945.

Rev. Yasuhiro Miyakawa will be chanting the three main Pure Land Sutras (in English) for 12 hours between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend at any time and chant along, fold paper cranes or lend support just by being there. The event, to foster awareness of the perils of nuclear arms, takes place at the Vernon Japanese Cultural Centre, 4895 Bella Vista Rd.
