The Contenders, Canadian legends Valdy and Gary Fjellgaard, are returning for their 12th annual tour of the Okanagan-Interior in support of George Ryga Week in B.C., Nov. 4 to 10.
The tour comes on the heels of Valdy’s new album entitled Read Between the Lines, which advocates literacy, and he’ll be performing some of his new material along with the repertoire of favourites from his and Fjellgaard’s two previous Contenders’ CDs, said Armstrong’s Ken Smedley, who is producing the tour.
“Gary Fjellgaard never stops writing songs so he’ll be sure to have some great new tunes along with his vast repertoire that spans over 40 years of recording,” said Smedley.
The Contenders will be bringing the North Okanagan leg of their tour to the Zion United Church Hall in Armstrong, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. Tickets are now available at The Brown Derby (250-546-8221) in Armstrong.
On Nov. 4, they will be at Lorenzo’s Cafe in Ashton Creek, east of Enderby. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. with the show at 8 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 250-838-6700.
The men come to Vernon Nov. 9 with a performance at Okanagan College’s Kalamalka Campus theatre starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are at The BookNook in Vernon. Phone 250-558-0668.
