The Cowboy Junkies helped celebrate the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre’s 15th annual Birthday Bash Saturday, Oct. 1 with a subdued and note-perfect performance.

The Toronto band, led by vocalist Margo Timmins, accompanied by bassist Alan Anton, multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird as well as brothers Michael and Peter Timmins, on guitar and drums, played new songs from their recent box set, Notes Falling Slow, as well as past hits such as Sun Comes Up, It’s Tuesday Morning, Common Disaster and their seminal cover of Lou Reed’s Sweet Jane.

Singer Timmins, now the mother of a 13-year-old son, charmed the audience, opening up about family life, and giving insight on the band’s songs (mostly written by her brother Michael) and 30-year career.
