Dialogue created at Lake Country Art Gallery's Language Café

The Lake Country Art Gallery is hosting its inaugural Language Café, a potluck gathering and opportunity to share conversations in various languages, June 26 from 3 to 6 p.m.

“The Language Café lets you practice a language you are learning or dust off your mother tongue,” said executive director Petrina McNeill. “Select a flag to place on your table. That table’s conversation becomes the language of the country it represents and invites others to join you.”

Tables will also be set aside for participants to create dialogue, promote understanding, and reduce prejudice.

“These human books will be available for visitors to meet with for up to 10 minutes each over a cup of tea. They are a  living, breathing book you can ask questions or just simply listen,” said McNeill.

Participants are asked to bring a dish from their childhood, favourite country, or a family recipe for a discounted ticket. Full ticket price is $20 or $10 with a potluck item, available at lakecountryartgallery.ca.
