Guitar duo Foak Tree, featuring Armstrong musicians Harry Morgan and Gaz Jordan, is the feature act at the Coldstream Coffee House at the Powerhouse Theatre in Vernon, Saturday, May 21.

Both members of The Whiskey Zippers, the men are from totally different musical backgrounds.

Morgan is a folk player influenced by the likes of Valdy and Neil Young, while Jordan, who is originally from Middlesex, England and played in the rock band No Denials, is a blues man at heart. Together they bring folk with powerful harmonies, strong guitar rhythms and tasty, noodling lead guitar.

Foak Tree’s first live performance was at the successful The Taste of Art in Armstrong event last summer, where they won the Taste of Art People’s Choice award. The duo sat outside The Wild Oak Cafe & Community Market, which Jordan runs with his wife Heidi, where the name Foak Tree was inspired.

This is the last Coldstream Coffee of the season.

“It has been a good year with packed houses at the Coldstream Women’s Institute Hall and record-setting attendance at the Powerhouse Theatre,” said Kerry Parks, with the Coldstream Live Music Society, which hosts the coffee house.

“Coldstream Coffee House would like to thank all the musicians and volunteers who come together to put on the shows, and especially all the folk and friends who come out to support live music.”

The open mic portion of the coffee house runs from 7 to 9 p.m., with the feature act taking the stage at 9 p.m. Powerhouse Theatre is located on 35th Avenue in Vernon across from the RCMP station.

Doors open for open mic sign-up at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5. Concession by donation.
