Learn to safely operate a scooter

Vernon's RCMP Safe Communities Unit hosts free workshop on operating a scooter

If you’re in the market for a mobility scooter or if you’re already driving one, an upcoming course is designed just for you

The Scooter Course takes place Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 4 pm. at the Schubert Centre and is hosted by the City of Vernon/RCMP Safe Communities Unit, with partner Southward Medical Supplies.

The course is open to seniors and others with scooters, those considering scooters and family members wishing to learn more about scooters.

“We welcome those with disabilities that operate other forms of ground transport such as motor-assisted chairs,” said Ed Howard, seniors/business programs coordinator for RCMP Safe Communities Unit.

Tuesday’s session begins indoors with information on safe operation of a scooter, rules of the road and maintenance. Participants then move outdoors to try a variety of forms of pedestrian transportation.

This is a free course; pre-register by calling 250-550-7844. Walk-ins are also welcome.
