There will be a couple of chances this month to get down and dirty with Vernon rockers The Dirt.

The band, which plays an artillery of hard rock and ‘80s metal classics, is headlining a show at The Green in the Village Green Hotel this weekend and also returns to the Funtastic Music Festival later in the month.

Up at the mic will be the band’s new lead singer Rob Forest, a tattoo artist and previous proprietor of Genesis Tattoo in Vernon, who now operates a studio in Kelowna.

“Rob has an incredible vocal range, and has really brought a fresh feel and sound to our band. He is not only a very talented tattoo artist, but musician as well,” said Dirt bassist Lee Waters, who with drummer Kevin Lane and guitarists Damian McGuiness and Dan Walker make up the rest of the band.

Formed in 2007, The Dirt have been rocking stages around the Okanagan ever since.

This will be their fifth appearance on the Funtastic main stage, performing in the past with such acts as Lou Gramm of Foreigner and Great White. Audiences are guaranteed to be bangin’ their heads to hits by Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, AC/DC, Metallica, Motley Crue, Poison, Kiss, Iron Maiden and others.

“We really enjoy playing the hard rock ‘80s stuff, but we have pulled tunes from the ‘70s and ‘90s as well,” said Waters. “We always strive to have a really fun show for the crowd, and give it our all when we’re on stage”.

The Dirt plays this Saturday night at The Green in the Village Green Hotel with special guests, Dirty Little Secret. Start time is 9 p.m.; no cover charge at the door.

They also take the stage at the Funtastic Music Festival at the DND Army Camp Friday, June 28 at 8 p.m. Also taking the stage that night will be the Original Shakedown, The Young ‘uns and headliners Honeymoon Suite.
