She may just be 22 years old, but singer-songwriter Brenna MacQuarrie has already leaned enough about the music business to last a lifetime.

In the last year, the Edmonton-raised artist, who now lives in Toronto, has recorded and released her own album and has booked a tour of western Canada.

“I accomplished this all with no management. It’s been tough, but nothing any musician can’t handle,” she said.

Since releasing her debut album, Hybrid, in January, MacQuarrie has been working towards taking her new material on the road.

Over the course of the summer, she has been making it happen in western Canada, and is looking forward to completing the branch of the tour that will include the Rockies, the Okanagan and the Lower Mainland.

Traveling with percussionist Fred Brenton                                                    and fellow singer-songwriter Jory Kinjo, MacQuarrie will perform her blend of upbeat and heartfelt soul and blues in 10 cities over two weeks.

The kickoff show for the Hybrid tour takes place in Banff, and winds its way to the North Okanagan with a performance at Lorenzo’s Café in Ashton Creek Oct. 15.
