A new bursary has been established for a graduating student wishing to pursue the arts.

Directors and staff of the Monashee Arts Council have established the bursary fund with the help of Lumby’s Scotiabank branch.

“This fund has been established by the Monashee Arts Council and is offered every year to a local Grade 12 student who wishes to take art courses after graduating from high school,” said Jennifer Sherwood, with the arts council. “Any form of art is considered and a jury committee makes the tough selection for the $400 bursary.”

The Lumby branch of Scotiabank made a major contribution to this fund last September with proceeds from a hot dog and hamburger sale, in conjunction with the Fall Equinox Festival, added Sherwood.

More information on the bursary is available by contacting the council at 778-473-3029.
