The Greater Vernon Museum and Archives is getting in the Winter Carnival spirit in a big way this year.

“We’ve introduced two new Carnival events and are absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with Vernon Tourism to put together a float for the parade,” said Denise Marsh, marketing and communication coordinator.

Marsh encourages everyone to “round up your geekiest friends and test your wits during the museum’s fun-filled History Trivia Night Feb. 3 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Come as a team of six or join up with others at the event,” she said. “We’re also encouraging offices and businesses to put in a team and challenge their competitors.”

This evening for everyone 19 and up is emceed by the always entertaining Gabriel Newman and will include both local and Canadian history questions. Not a history expert? Don’t worry, there will be some multiple-choice questions, too.

Tickets are just $10 per person, available at the museum and the Carnival office. Appetizers and refreshments will be available during the event.

The museum is also hosting the Sweetheart Dance for Grandparents and Grandchildren Feb. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m.

“Grandkids love spending time with their grandparents and viceversa,” said Marsh. “I can’t think of a better way to do so than singing and dancing the afternoon away together.

“Tanya Lipscomb, aka Kiki the Eco Elf, will come dressed as a Love Fairy and lead everyone in sing-alongs and dancing. She’ll start off with a mini square dance session, followed by some classics to dance to, and finish off with some interactive silly songs.”

Included in your ticket price is an ice cream sundae supplied by Lollipop Lane, located inside Vernon Teach & Learn, as well as other snacks and refreshments to keep you fueled.

This event is also a part of the museum’s new Kids Series, sponsored by Kal Tire.

“A huge thank you goes out to Kal Tire for making this event possible.”

Celebrate Valentine’s Day, Family Day and Canada’s 150th all at once while creating lasting memories!

Tickets are $5 per person, available at both the museum, 3009-32nd Ave., and the Vernon Winter Carnival office, 3401-35th Ave.
