Parenting with Love and Logic

St. John's Lutheran Church offers its ninth series that helps parents to make their job more fun and a lot easier

Since 1977, the Love and Logic Institute has been dedicated to making parenting and teaching fun and rewarding, instead of stressful and chaotic.

“We provide practical tools and techniques that help adults achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children and help them prepare their kids for the real world,” said Joel Haberstock, program facilitator and teacher. “All of our work is based on a psychologically sound parenting and teaching philosophy called Love and Logic.”

Back by popular demand, and sponsored by St. John’s Lutheran Church, Parenting the Love and Logic Way is returning to Vernon for its ninth session.  More than 250 families in the community have been encouraged by this course,  facilitated by Haberstock and his wife, Jodie Haberstock, teacher and parent educator.

Classes will run Mondays, beginning March 31, from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church (the church with the bells behind Butcher Boys.)

As well, a $10 per family meal will be offered at 5:15 p.m. each Monday, providing great food and great couple time.

The six-week practical course will help parents to:

n Put an end to arguing, back talk and begging.

n Teach responsibility without losing their love.

n Set limits without waging war.

n Avoid power struggles.

n Guide kids to own and solve their problems.

n Teach kids to complete chores without reminders and without pay.

“Love allows children to grow through their mistakes,” said  Joel. “Logic allows them to live with the consequences of their choices.”

The program costs $40 for a couple and $25 for an individual. This cost includes a parent manual.  Extra manuals are available for $10.
