Potters from all over the Okanagan recently gathered in Lumby for a two-day,  hands-on atmospheric firing workshop.

The potters all came with bisqued pots ready to go. Four different firing techniques were applied on the one day, while three others were applied on the following day.

Workshop facilitator Jeanette Moore, of Lumby, shared her 30 years of experience and  built a pit kiln especially for the occasion.

She led the potters through an ambitious program, including a demonstration in ferric chloride application, which is one of Moore’s  specialties.

“There was plenty of hands-on learning, and each participant achieved good results on their pieces,” said Moore. “The potters were all excited by the weekend and eager to try these firings again in the future.”

Moore is about to  join other artists from the Okanagan Potters Association for their annual spring show and sale at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre.

Potters show their work in the centre’s lobby Friday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
