Don’t try these at home, kids.
Fans of shows such as the Jim Rose Circus and heart pulsing daredevil sideshow acts can catch B.C.’s only travelling sideshow when host and performer Neil E. Dee and his entourage arrive in Vernon Friday.
With a bizarre and talented cast, this season’s lineup for Dee’s Danger Thrill Show features “Fatt Matt” Alaeddine, billed as the “World’s Fattest Contortionist” and international burlesque sensation Melody Mangler.
“The Danger Thrill Show crew push their bodies to the limit for your entertainment,” said Dee, who is known for laying his bare flesh on the blades of two sharpened machetes while having a concrete block broken across his chest.
Meanwhile, Alaedinne shows his agility as he flexes all 450 pounds of himself out of a straight jacket and through other contortions.
Mangler’s act includes the ladder of swords and the bed of nails.
“She’s no stranger to sexy danger,” said Dee. “These real and dangerous acts are performed by some of the best in the business.”
Other stunts include fire eating/breathing, bed of nails (with a head stand on only four spikes), the human dartboard, real sword swallowing including an upside down hanging sword swallow, strongman feats, human blockhead, where a giant spike is hammered into the centre of the head, and more.
It’s not for the faint of heart.
Those willing to take the risk can catch the Danger Thrill Show Friday at The Hub Arts Collective, located on 30th Avenue, downtown Vernon next to the Towne Theatre. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15, available in advance at the Ticket Seller box office in the Performing Arts Centre, by phone at 250-549-7469, or online at www.ticketseller.ca.
