For those who have checked out the beaches, orchards and other popular summer attractions in the North Okanagan, it’s now time to soak yourself in some arts and culture.
The Arts Council of the North Okanagan (ACNO) is presenting the perfect opportunity with its inaugural Culture Crawl Aug. 12 and 13.
The event allows people to stop by 10 local arts and cultural organizations and businesses between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on either Friday or Saturday to check out what these amazing locations have to offer, said Keyanna Burgher, administrative assistant at the Vernon Community Arts Centre.
“This event is created to encourage the public to support and explore all that Vernon’s cultural sector has to offer,” said Burgher, who has organized the event.
“The ACNO’s mission statement is to stimulate, encourage, support and develop the varied artistic and cultural activities in the Greater Vernon area, which is exactly what this Culture Crawl aims to do. We also want this event to create a sense of connection between the different organizations. All of us together are a team, and it’s great for us to work collaboratively on something like this.”
Each of the locations will have displays or tours, and have staff and volunteers ready to answer any questions the public may have.
“Some of the locations have local Okanagan artists on display, so you’re not only supporting organizations but also individual artists,” said Burgher.
For those following the map, available on posters around town and online, the crawl starts at the Mackie Lake House in Coldstream, then heads to the Vernon Community Arts Centre at Polson Park, then downtown to Leap Art Supplies and Gallery, Gallery Vertigo, the Vernon Public Art Gallery, Nadine’s Fine Art & Frames, and the Vernon Museum & Archives. The crawl continues to the Caetani Cultural Centre, Powerhouse Theatre, and ends at Headbones Gallery on Old Kamloops Road.
