Montreal based band The OM Sound is back to their hometown Vernon roots on their summer tour, celebrating the release of their latest album, Gardens In The Ghetto.
The album was recorded live in Montreal and is inspired by the trio's experiences in the big city. With strong jazz and hip hop influences and introspective lyrics, The OM Sound is expressing the beauty of music and culture found in the never-ending chaos of urban living.
The band will be crossing the country from Quebec, playing more than 20 shows during July and August.
The OM Sound was formed in Vernon before their move to Montreal in 2014. The group consists of Orion Miller, guitar and vocals; Marina Durham, keyboards and vocals; and Varoujan Mardirossian, drums.
The trio classifies its music as hip-hop-electro-jazz-funk, fused together through low-down synth bass lines, soulful piano melodies, funky guitar licks and popping drum beats. They strive to inspire their listeners through contemplative and insightful lyrics, while creating the vibe for dancing through deep in-the-pocket rhythms and grooves.
The band will be crossing the country from Quebec this summer, playing ore than 20 shows in July and August, and has planned two shows in the North Okanagan: a full on rock and roll funk party for Vernonites at the recently opened local venue, Record City (2909-30th Ave.) July 30 at 9 p.m, with opening act Soulstice Creation, and a low-key jazz evening at Lorenzo’s Cafe in Ashton Creek Aug. 4 at 8 p.m.
Entry for both events is $10 at the door. Copies of Gardens In The Ghetto and other merchandise will be available at the shows.
