Rene Bourque tosses a puck into the Bell Centre crowd in Montreal after Game 5. Bourque had a hat trick in the Habs' 7-4 victory

The Sounds of Silence: Tim Thompson’s latest montage for Montreal’s last game

Hockey Night in Canada's pre-Game 6 montage set the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers to Simon and Garfunkels' classic...

We all watch those beautiful Hockey Night in Canada intros and we think, “Who does those?” Perhaps it’s just a group of videographic interns, stuck to their chairs for a tense 24 hours before every Saturday’s Leafs game, cobbling them together while they somehow still find famous, classic songs we all know but they haven’t used yet.

Turns out, it’s one guy. A mad genius by the name of Tim Thompson, an indie filmmaker and the CBC’s designated montage and features maker.

And last night, he did it again… epically scored by Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘The Sounds of Silence’.

Habs fans may be in mourning today, but Thompson’s pre-Game 6 hair-raiser gives them a permanent well to return to, to remember Rene Bourque’s hat trick and Dustin Tokarski’s freshman heroics. (*See the rest of Thompson’s work on his Vimeo channel, HockeyFilms.)

Montreal may not have won, but they’ll always have Game 5.

Just like Canucks fans will always have Adele and this:
