The Kamloops Symphony’s Viennese concert program brings some new magic every year.

This year, the featured soloist is well-known Vernon-based coloratura soprano Melina Moore.

Born in Argentina, Moore grew up in New York City and trained at The Juilliard School in voice and piano accompaniment and at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She has performed in operas and musicals worldwide, is a frequent soloist with many symphonies in B.C. and is a featured artist on CBC Radio Two.

Moore tours regularly with musical theatre legend Peter Karrie, is the cantorial soloist for Temple Beth Shalom in Manhattan, The Okanagan Jewish Community Centre in Kelowna, and the producer and co-star of Opera with a Twist, an original production bringing opera to the masses across Western Canada.

Moore will perform selections from The Phantom of the Opera, Tales of Hoffman, Guiditta, The Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus, and songs from film scores.

The rest of the program includes the dance music made popular by the Strauss family, and others, in Vienna, plus a waltz by Shostakovich, a march by Berlioz and an overture by Dvorak.

The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13  in the Nexus at First United Church in Salmon Arm. Tickets are available at Wearabouts in Salmon Arm or at the door.
