Winter Carnival Blues Festival back for a second year

Blues lovers should clear their calendars for the second Saturday of February when last year’s proclaimed “best adult event” of Vernon Winter Carnival returns for a second year.

Blues lovers should clear their calendars for the second Saturday of February when last year’s proclaimed “best adult event” of Vernon Winter Carnival returns for a second year.

Back Door Blues and Kiss FM’s Winter Carnival Blues Festival takes place at the Vernon Recreation Centre Feb. 12 and promises to be bigger than last year.

With help from partner Lindsay Wong, Back Door Blues’ Cat Wells has added more vendors to this year’s mini festival to include five food stations.

“There are more dining choices and several artisans to add to the festival atmosphere. The lineup of talent is second to none,” said Wells.

Artists include veteran blues man Harpdog Brown and the Blood Hounds from Edmonton, Vancouver’s Jason Buie Band, as well as local acts Ranger Kaine (formerly the Blues Gurus) with their newly released CD, Wells and her Red Hot Voodoo Daddies and newcomers Crossfire from Lumby.

“The Vernon Rec Centre auditorium is an amazing venue for this type of show as it has plenty of space for dancing and there was a lot of that going on last year,” said Wells.

Tickets for the festival are $25 for all five acts. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music begins at 6:45 p.m. and goes until 11 p.m.

Tickets are available now at the Vernon Winter Carnival office, the East Side Liquor Co. and Juiced Up in the Shops at Polson Park, or reserve them online at www.vernonwintercarnival.com or over the phone at 250-545-2236.
